I installed the new detonator drivers - big mistake. FS now crashes constantly and the refresh rate is very bad. And AC3D has become so slow it's unusable. Does anyone have the Nvidia 353.exe file for a Windows9x PCI TNT card? If so please e-mail it to me and post a message here saying you've sent it so I don't get ten of them. Thanks (I never seem to learn. IF IT WORKS - DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING) [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 01-18-2000).] IP: Logged |

Never mind. I found the 353 drivers at Diamondmm and eventually managed to install them. Then the game ran alright but kept crashing on the interface screens until I reinstalled directx 7A. It's really amazing the way my hard drive stands up to the thousands of reboots I subject it to.IP: Logged |

The new detonator drivers also make the fog layer flash in the Foggy 2v2 and 3v3 missions. I switched back to 2.4 or whatever it was before they jumped to 3.x and it's back to normal now. TS

I'm so glad it's not just me. I installed the Detonator drivers for my TNT2, assuming they were made by the experts at NVidia and would do as claimed..make my games run faster. Big mistake, all they did was screw my system. All these "expert" developers. Anyone tried Luftwaffe Commander? A full-on commercial development that went on sale at full price here in the UK and turned out to be utter dreck. "Well" I thought, "I'll give them a break and try the patch". So I downloaded it and tried to run it..result, crashguard initiates everytime. So, I've binned the patch and the game is going back to the shop again. SSI totally suck, every game of their's I've ever tried has been bugged beyond belief. I could go on, but you all know what I'm talking about. For some reason the PC industry thinks of us as mugs who'll swallow any old pile of shite. activision are up there with SSI..piss-taking tossers. NVidia? I'm not even sure it's them who make the Detonator drivers..but Creative's sure work ok. If it works don't fix it. IP: Logged |

I don't know that one company's much better than any other, at least insofar as these drivers are concerned. I believe all the board manufacturer's use the Nvidia drivers for their TNT based boards. The only advantages of using the drivers directly from Nvidia is that you get the very latest ones and I find they are much easier to install. But in this case the newest drivers made a complete mess of my computer and I found it extremely difficult to get rid of them. And I can't understand why they don't archive the old drivers. Given they release a new version about every three months, you would think they would have a better appreciation of the fact that some versions just aren't going to work very well and that people will occasionally want to go back. The worst case of buggy software I ever bought was Red Baron II. It was completely unworkable. I couldn't set any options. None of the interface screens worked. I was so disgusted I just threw it in the garbage rather than return it. [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 01-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

I had the same problems with the Detonator drivers. I use Creatives drivers aswell. Also their O/C app. Works fine. Just a note, I went to see if Creative had made any progress with their Unified Drivers and the D/L section doesnt work. It was a new version since my last visit but no dice. Perhaps they ran into legal trouble with them ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory [This message has been edited by Zoycite (edited 01-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

Important note about drivers....... It is pretty much a rule that when a company releases chipsets as OEM that the companies that purchase the chips use the reference drivers from the chipset manufacturer as a base for their own drivers. 3DFX did this, Nvidia does it, and S3 did it as well. The one advantage to using drivers from the OEM's (Creative, Diamond, STB) is that they tend to add nice tools and refine the drivers before release. Just some things I thought you would like to know. Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |
