Just for fun I put a catapult on a carrier and it works... kinda. It's basically a block that rests behind your planes' nosewheel. You must "be" the ship (not in your plane) to activate it. You hit the C key and the block VERY rapidly goes from point A to point B along the deck. Only problem I'm running into though is when the plane is sitting over the block nothing happens. But when the plane is out of the way (not over it) it works. Also I sat my plane in front of it (far enough as to not be overtop of it) and it worked that way as well.
I just copied a block into a carrier model and then gave it a translate dof, using a max number of 200, time is set at one second (seems to get a good speed this way), and it goes about 45% the length of the front of the ship along the deck. Looks really neat. Now only if we can make it work.

(one other thing is that after you hit C you'd have to quickly jump into your plane to take control)

Has anyone had any luck launching a plane off a carrier deck yet?

Thanks for pioneering work Pete!

I've been looking foward to Bryan's Hurricane, as I have a CAM-ship mesh partly done - and being able to launch off cargo ships on the Murmansk run would be kinda fun.

Yea Pete,
We have full missions that launch and land back on the Carriers.
Launching is easy, landing is another story, hehe.

Contact points on the catapult block and nose wheels not adjusted right maybe?

Does anyone have an arresting hook and cable working yet? Looks like we'll have four or five planes that need it pretty soon...

Pete, don't forget to add the white smoke to the block as it zooms down the deck!

Thanks Jag for the idea (that was part of my plan to put that in as well), and Rattlesnake for the comments.

While on the flightline here at Travis AFB today, waiting for a C-5 to launch, I got a nice little surprise. I looked to my left and saw an F-18 Hornet taxi by right in front of me (very close) from the same ship (USS Constellation) and it had the same N E lettering like my F-14 for SDOE. It was cool! It was a nice little coincidence that made my day.
