http://members.xoom.com/hawkersop/images It's the F-14_5.jpg. The gears are basically done (except for the gear doors) and look like the real thing. The texture map is a VERY rough one, just to give you an idea of what it will eventually look like. I'm going to do a high res paint scheme and make it as sharp and clear as possible. For some reason (all the different body contours on the fuselage) the bottom isn't texturing right. It may have to end up mirroring the top, but I hope not. Making progress. IP: Logged |

Pete, I have no love for jets but think yours are very cool. I am going to try one of yours but could you put on a prop that would activate with the "Q" key, I can't fly right unless I have that blurring circle in front of me. Great work and, please, never stop! http://home.earthlink.net/~pgrubich/

Whoa look at the size of that plane! It's HUGE! That pilot looks like a fly-dropping in the cockpit! BTW, how big is the F-14 anyway, compared to WW2 planes? Something like a medium bomber, JU88 for example?Too bad the maps are so small, "too close for missiles, switching to guns" Great job Pete! Wow! Looking great! What's up with the canopy? Is it flat shaded? Can you smooth it? I have never made a glass canopy yet ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! IP: Logged |

I'm glad you guys like it! Camo, it IS huge! Wingspan - 64' 1 1/2" Length - 62' 8" The wingspan is 22 Ft bigger than the F-15, which has the same wingspan as the Me262 of 42 feet. Sv, the smoothing of the glass has been a headache for me both with the F-14 and my F-15 as well. I've asked for help and sent the files to Woodpanel and Bryan Russell. Woodpanel's mail seems to be messed up and Bryan I haven't heard from (no biggie, I'm patient). But in Max's Obj2Max and Max2Obj plugins, smoothing can take place both on import and export. So I'm thinking may it's getting smoothed on one and unsmoothed with the other. I'm not sure though. Update... I just did another version of the canopy, textured it, then smoothed it and it's much better now (not perfect, but close).

Just for fun I put a catapult on a carrier and it works... kinda. It's basically a block that rests behind your planes' nosewheel. You must "be" the ship (not in your plane) to activate it. You hit the C key and the block VERY rapidly goes from point A to point B along the deck. Only problem I'm running into though is when the plane is sitting over the block nothing happens. But when the plane is out of the way (not over it) it works. Also I sat my plane in front of it (far enough as to not be overtop of it) and it worked that way as well.I just copied a block into a carrier model and then gave it a translate dof, using a max number of 200, time is set at one second (seems to get a good speed this way), and it goes about 45% the length of the front of the ship along the deck. Looks really neat. Now only if we can make it work. (one other thing is that after you hit C you'd have to quickly jump into your plane to take control) Has anyone had any luck launching a plane off a carrier deck yet? Size of aircraft anecdote:In college I took a communications class where I had to give a speech. I chose to talk about modern fighter aircraft. I have a friend who builds model aircraft and he let me borrow a few as visual aids. I started the talk with WWI aircraft and held up an SE-5. I went on to WWII and I believe I had an F4U and a B-25. Then on to an F-15. The SE-5 sat nicely on the back of the F-15. The SE-5 is about as long nose to tail as the depth of the F-15 wings. All of the models were 1/48 scale. The F-15 is generally the same size as the B-25. A little bit longer, though the B-25 wingspan is a big more. An F-14 is even bigger than an F-15. IP: Logged |

So true Mighty. I always thought an F-15 was the biggest, and honestly having walked around a sat in an F-14, I think just the height of the F-15 makes it seem larger on the ground. The F-14 sits very low like a sports car so it's hard to get a real indication of it's huge size.Anyhow, I love these big fighters IP: Logged |
