Just wanted to let you know. I've run into a flight dynamics problem that needs more massaging and won't be able to get the next beta (v67) of the game out till at least tomorrow night.IP: Logged |

Will the debug code be removed so we can use it online? That's what we need, it'll be next to useless unless we can use it for online play.

No, the next beta will be chock full of debug code. I need it in there until we determine that it's ready for final release. Once that happens, I'll build a non-debug beta for final testing. If that comes through clean, it'll be "released" for real.IP: Logged |

Michael,Any word on that external mouse-pan bug? Right now any mouse panning in the external view mode results in a snap to level horizontal viewpoint action Fixing this bug would be a big plus for seeing all the cool new planes from the outside ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! MH, no one is going to seriously use the beta patch online with the debug code, can't we try a version without and still report any anomalies found in it? It's the desktop crash bug that most people want to get rid of right now and anything else such as turning off the map and target info will be a bonus. cheers------------------

V67 will have debug code in it, but V68 won't. I need the debug code so that I can gather data that is needed if something goes wrong. At this point, I don't need people to seriously use the program, I need them to seriously test the program. If the testing comes through clean, v68 will be the one that should get used by more people prior to it being declared "final". IP: Logged |

Well, I for one will be happy to "test" anything new....but where do I get it?, and how do I make you aware of any problems I have? and last but not least, is there anything particular you would like us to look for? IP: Logged |

You can get the beta and report bugs at www.dragonseye.com/FSBeta I'll have release notes with the beta which will tell what's changed and what sort of bugs I'm most interested in flushing out. IP: Logged |

I don't know about everyone else but with the limiting time I have for flying sdoe online with my mates, I don't want to be beta testing while I can be enjoying some quality time online. I don't mind if the debug code is removed so game play is unaffected though. I'm happy with the game as is save for the crash to desktop bug and any net improvements that can be made. I just want to be able to join a game or host one without the pain of the send mission bug. Can we have the beta that's been available for a few months now without the debug code so we can continue to fly without the hair pulling and/or keep the new guys interested till you finalise the current one? There's been a fresh surge of people flying online lately and the desktop bug is raising its ugly head even more. Pretty please?------------------

I think it's a good idea to test it first. I'd hate to wind up with a patch that has more bugs than what we're using now. TS

It doesn't seem to be posted yet Michael, as of 1:18AM Pacific Time. The only one in that folder is fsc151b5.zip dated 10-Oct-99, at the Dragonseye site.IP: Logged |

Well if it's the same as the 1.5 patch but with fixes can it be a problem? What if we just have the 1.5 patch with the added desktop fix for starters, then we should be safe. At least it would alleviate the major problem and keep us happy while we wait. How long would this next beta take before becoming final? The last one has taken months already. Am I alone on this? Does my shit stink? What is the sound of one hand clapping? ...look at these new shoes, I only got em last week.............. ......cheers

Spyds- yes, you do smell kinda funny. I am with you on this one. I know of two people not flying because of the "desktop crash" -and I have heard for quite a while that the beta patch does not do this. just my .02 (its all I have left after the holidays) ------------------

Spyder... I may be able to put out a non-debug version of Beta 5 (which is also build 65). I'll check later today and let you know. Pete, The new beta (Beta 6, build 68) isn't available yet. I'm putting together the archive and testing for last-minute buglets. IP: Logged |

At the risk of aligning myself with Spyder (egad!), I would have to second that emotion. Seems as though things have been pretty slow lately, but then the last couple nights have been rocking and rolling pretty good.Last night I desktopped 3x's trying to join a game, got in on my fourth try, and promptly got a host/server not responding twice after taking off. Then when I exited, the screen froze, I had to restart the whole shootin' match, log back on, etc. Also got a "crash-to-black-screen" on the next game. Had to ctrl-alt-del, then restart, etc., etc. Short version: 1 1/2 hours online, 5 min. in the air. I, like Spyder (egad!), would hate to see folks coming online with us to try SDOE and have this happen to them too. As a grizzled veteran of SDOE's communications gremlins, I can tolerate it a little better than some EAW-first timers. A pre-release patch to help the crashing would keep the rabble quiet (mainly Spyder, hee-hee), and give the MH'inator more time to put the finishing touches on the "real" patch. I don't think it would be too confusing for newbies, least not as confusing as 3 desktops, 2 host/server not respondings, and a crash to black screen, all right after each other. The Good Part: Man, that five minutes of flyin' was BITCHIN'! Good to see all the folks at night on CAL12. Mk10=225th= IP: Logged |

I have to say that if we can just stop the online crashing problems that will be enough for me, for now. I too am happy with the game as is other than that. -=Bab=-Gunner IP: Logged |

As an 8 month veteran of Janes WWII online and heading up a squad(the 663rd) for most of that time, I can tell you the on-line problems of SDOE seem small to me. I was used to constant lag, crashes to desktop, warping planes that shoot you from behind even though you see them in front of you and on and on. Granted it would be nice to have a perfect on-line experience but I am beginning to think that my be impossible with todays technology.I fly SDOE on-line most nights and all in all it is a great time compared to some other flight sims. Let me put it this way; this is the only sim I have wanted to stick around and watch the action after I have been shot out of the sky. http://home.earthlink.net/~pgrubich/ [This message has been edited by Hawk (edited 01-04-2000).] IP: Logged |

Ditto to that Hawk.I actually almost enjoy that as much as flying. It's like watching a movie and you know all the actors. I love to bounce around from plane to plane, or if the action s over an airfield I sometime F8 and watch from the tower. With the release of the udate from Michael, and the Contest, this sim only promises to get better, and better! PR=FC=

Tail It's not ready yet. I've decided to do a mini-beta beta to flush out any obvious buglets before I release it into the cold world. It'll be a few more days before the general public gets a hold of it. IP: Logged |
