Pacific Theatre. No land, it sucks frame rates. An arena measuring 100x100 miles, with a capacity for 250 players. They can choose to be: Pilot. Air crew. Ship's gunner. Ship's helmsman/radar crew. The object being to sink the other squad's carrier. Each squad would have their own carrier with a choice of fighters, bombers and torpedo planes. All realism features maxed-out. It would TOTALLY ROCK!!! imho. IP: Logged |

I like the idea. I have wished we had a larger map with little, or no land for some time. Your right, land kills your frame rate.Maybe we could also have a map with two little islands and a vast amount of water between them. That way if you wanted to attack the base on the island with the palm trees and huts you could. I'm assuming we would have huts...where else would we put our beers? Somebody model the Corsair! Two little islands would be an excellent place for the squads' carriers to start from. Yeah, imagine multiple-carrier slug fests! Sailing out from base, searching for the enemy's carriers, launching the strike groups, loads of ack-ack, torps everywhere, mad dogfights and a scary deck-landing for dessert. Nice. IP: Logged |

A up-to-date version of Carrier Command - Remember that? Each carrier carried its own complement of four 'Manta' fighters and four 'Walrus' amphibious vehicles. That would be neat Now, where did I store my Atari STFM...? Just a thought. ------------------ Jagdverband 44 IP: Logged |

I heard that there is an updated version of Carrier Command in the works, but can't find any evidence on the net.of course if it's true the game will be technologically up to date. IP: Logged |

How is the water any different from land?Only 2 things are really stopping us from having 250 online: A. We don't have 250 people here and B. The aircraft themselfs. I have tried an online test where there was no AI and like 8+ B-17s, and it laged.. Not as much as 8 B-17s off line though, but the frame rates were down to like 3-5 and I usually have 60 with just 1 plane. But it would be cool to have an arena that you could just jump into and start flying. I wouldn't care if the plane limit was at 16. It would be ALOT easier to fly then waiting for people to start your own mission. You could just jump in and wait for others to join....... Why couldn't we have this? That would really rock siggi..... Now lets hope we can actually get it to work!! ------------------ Cheers! Jaguar www.fshangar.com IP: Logged |

Pac TheatreGreat idea Siggi Would be awesome, even off line, anything to get the frame rate up! Small islands, big sea. Naval strikes would be awesome, in B25s, A-20s and the ‘Whistling Death’ Beaufighter (not F4-U) The RAAF IJN ship killer 4x20mm & 6x0.50s and RPs! Outruns the Zeke too. I’ve been modeling a La7 for Russian Theater but I’ll focus on some Pac planes if others will? I was going to do the ‘Beau’ anyway. We also need some more ships, Marus and Destroyers. I was going to Model the F4-U, but I read there was already one around, what’s the story? Where can one get it? Suggested reading: ‘Fire in the sky’ and ‘Low Level Attack In The Pacific’ Oh! and the Ditching will need to be fixed, I can never ditch in the sea in SDOE (I just blow up, can belly it on land fine though???) but I can in WB, EAW etc we can then do Flying boats too. We should also replace the Moo Cows with Tiger Sharks!!!! And Island babes if you get ashore Grif

There is a Carrier Command II site but it is more of a mock up than for real. We have the technology Actually, some of the screenshot mock-ups look a little like SDOE. Carrier Command II ------------------ Jagdverband 44 IP: Logged |

The great thing about sea and carriers is that it centralises and condenses the air combat experience. There are discrete origins and targets, missions are clear and enjoyable. Squads could have personal carriers, and there could be a 'free' ship on each side for the use of non-squad players. And players would be able to join games in progress simply by clicking the carrier's name from a menu in the lobby. Once on board they would have a variety of rooms to visit...the briefing room, mess, hanger etc, each with their own functions/purposes. This would not be a 'five-minute experience', at least not if one joined a game from the moment a carrier left base. Gun positions on each side of the vessel could be manned by one player, in the case of crew shortages, by binding multiple guns to one manned position. A wall of flak would be gauranteed. I would be the captain, and would get to say "Full steam ahead! Launch the fighters!" and "Break out the rum!" etc. Yes. All damage modelling would be ruthlessly realistic...carriers would be extremely difficult to sink. Ahh...my imagination carries me away...Maybe in five years or so we'll have the capabilities.

Yes, but you have to salute me. And I want medals; it'll be your job to keep the top brass informed about my heroic exploits. There will be no back-chat. I shout, you jump. That's the ticket.IP: Logged |
