Well Gunner,

You've got many great choices, but my personal Favorites are:

If you've got Win 98 and USB ports(or a regular game port for that matter), the Logitec Wingman Extreme Digital 3D is an outstanding stick. I just got it for christmas and I have to say "WOW". Now true it is "digital", and before everyone starts throwing tomatoes at me, (cause we know what a nightmare the Saitek Cyborg Digital 3D is to fly with in SDOE) I have to say this stick is more stable than most analog sticks I have used. (And that is just about all of them)
And it has a super simple yet very intuitive programming interface. It's main draw to me is that it is USB, so no more rebooting when you want to change sticks. But it also can hook right up to your old gameport on the soundcard.

Another good thing I like is most of the buttons are on the top of the stick within easy thumb reach. It has a built on throttle, and the handle twists for rudder control. There are two different sticks that look the same, make sure its the one with 4 buttons on the top of the stick on each side of the hat switch.
And of course the best thing about it was the price,------$39.95 (U.S.) at compusa or elect. boutique.

If you prefer analog, you just can't beat the good old MS sidewinder Presicion Pro. That was the first one I ever got (3-4 yrs ago) and it's still going strong. I just got tired of the looks of the "Plain Jane" grip handle so I took the grip off of my old TM TopGun stick and Put it onto the MS sidewinder. (Looks pretty cool I think, Works great too.)

Well that's just my two cents, there are better ones out there, namely sticks by CH products but you'll pay more and I don't think they work any better. Besides I like haveing the rudder on the stick instead of on the pedals, it just seems easier to control.

Good luck man hope you find something you like.

Spanky here...

I have the same stick and i love it also. I don't know what everyones problems is with pots unless its just a SDOE prob but my last stick was pots and it worked just fine and it was over 10 years old, never cleaned those pots once. the only reason i bought a new stick was for a hat. I havn't even programed all the buttons yet.

loveing the rudder too

Sabre66, is the wingman stick you have less sensitive in SDOE than the Microsoft pro?

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Percision Pro and it works great. Especially the built in rudder. It will take some time to get usedto, but once you do you can't fly without it. It is rather touchy, but there are patches out there to correct this.

This J/S will run you around 60USD if I rember correctly.

Hawk,
No the logitec is even more sensitive than the MS Sidewinder, it may have something to do with being USB or digital. But I always use the a joystick utility (Forget what it's called) from "The Stickworks". So if you find that the stick may be too sensitive or not sensitive enough this is a handy little utility to have, lets you adjust every setting a stick has, even some that you don't.

If you are interested here is the address:
http://home.att.net/~stickworks/

Give it a try, it works wonders, even got the Saitek Cyborg to work with FSDOE. (Although it still kinda jerks from time to time)

I received my Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D stick yesterday and I have to say I am pleasantly pleased with this thing. I've been using a Gravis Digital Blackhawk that has been a very good stick but no rudder control capability. I'd heard some of you guys had some problems with the Logitech sticks so I was hesitant until Sabre66 and Spanky swore by this thing.
For $39.99 with no shipping charge from Logitech I thought I'd give it a whirl. FSSDOE, EAW, WWII Fighters, and Falcon 4--no probs so far. Works great and with the twist handle for rudder control I'm in yaw heaven!
Not one oversensitivity problem yet.
Good call Sabre66 and Spanky and thanks. I've been pondering spending the big bucks on either a Thrustmaster or CH stick and rudder combo. Now I don't have to.
Now if I could just find the time to get back online when the rest of you are on (now that things are picking up again).
