Well, now that "The Contest" is underway I was thinking about what else could be done to spark interest in SDOE. Interest from outside the community, as well as those long term SDOE fliers.

I was thinking of a SDOE Tournament! We have had several attempts before, with varying degrees of success. I was hoping to have a tournament with very simple rules and lot's of missions to choose from to fly. There would of course be Prize Money at stake (I'm thinking another $100.00), as well as the accolades that come with winning such an event. I believe we could have both squad based and single player events.

My initial thoughts are to have guidelines that all participants have the settings for SDOE be the most advantageous to online play. That being 1) Fog set at 5miles 2) Clouds off 3) 800x600 screen resolution. Things along those lines. I had hoped these settings would be best for keeping the frame rates as high as possible.

Missions could be submitted by all for the tournament. The players involved would choose missions. Then the two competing squads/individuals would (for the sake of fairness) play the selected mission/missions from both sides. Or maybe the missions would be selected by a random generator once all missions were submitted.

As you all can see I'm still thinking this out. I need and desire input form you all.

The one thing I do know is I would like it to coincide with the end of the contest. Then maybe the fruits of that (the planes) can be used for the Tournament.

O.k. torch me, rate me, debate me, but please....help me.

My initial reaction is that money should not be at the heart of an online "tournament", but perhaps some prizes could be. Perhaps some joysticks, video cards, or something similar would be fun. I feel like a simple 2v2 or 3v3 ladder would still be fun, prizes or no.

What ever happened to AoW, btw?

If you plan on giving cash prizes it would have to be a single player ladder, right?

I see no reason why cash prizes would limit it to a single player ladder.

I don't want this Tournament to get muddy, and bogged down with rules and regulations, which sometimes can happen. I think this can be simple, and still fun.

As far as other prizes in addition to the money...I see no reason that couldn't happen, but I have no such guarntee's of anything else at this time.
