I'm in the middle of building one for SDOE. I posted 2 separate threads in the projects forum. I guess everyone is gone or least offline, celebrating the holidays.I hope at least some of you like jets. Regardless of what some may think about this being a WWII sim, OpenPlane allows you to do ANYTHING! I'm trying to prove that with this one. I can see a nice gulf war or at least modern era add-on to this great sim in OPs future. It's working/looking very cool. Hopefully this plane will be the spark for a new angle on SDOE.

Spanky here... Yeah i'm thinking its going to be cool but, the things i don't like about the jets in this game its, No guided missles (not that i like them No radar (not that i want one And no proper jet engine in Openplane. I would be into early jets Korea and such but i can't wait until actuall jet engines are modeled in the flight engine.

have to agree with spanky hereon a modern fighter full of avionics how well can OP model it? there are already some bugs in the current code (ie manifold pressure) hope we get to see improvements to openplane itself, in addition to the engine. IP: Logged |

Hey Pete,Can you make a Goodyear Blimp? Or what about the little Coors Light Silver Bullet plane? No, I got it...... An X Wing fighter!! That would be cool. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yeah we need a zepplin with a cradle for a ww1 fighter. That would rock Could we do that? make it have no weight? would it kinda hover that way? I know we could do the rest but what about the floating aspect?

JT,Sounds great! I've got so many plane ideas (of mostly jets) that it's driving me mad. There isn't enough time to do all this stuff! Too bad it takes so long to create a plane. But the time and effort are worth it. Pics of the new working canopy and speedbrake open together. God I love OpenPlane! http://hawker.webjump.com/images/f15c_2.jpg http://hawker.webjump.com/images/f15c_3.jpg I'd link the pics here directly but WebJump doesn't like that too well.

Well guys I agree it's tough to do a modern fighter since SDOE doesn't have all the modern radar and guidance systems built in. But for just having fun "guns only" dogfights and simply seeing these planes fly with SDOE's game engine is a real treat. I'm just doing these because I enjoying watching them fly with all the moving control surfaces and stuff. I get a huge kick out of it. So remember this, it's all just for fun.

That plane keeps getting better pete! Keep it up. JT, you should build a F8-J. I'm building a nice little place for you to fly her!

I also have an A-4 and an A-7 in plans as well, along with the Tomcat. Should be lots of fun.IP: Logged |

Pete let me try his F-15. It sure is a lot of fun to see it in the air. It's been awhile since I've flown a modern aircraft sim, and man, those planes have incredible visibility.Since it's still set up as an ME-262 I was able to use it in a few of the existing missions. I flew against it in a P-51. It looked great when I was canopy to canopy and could watch it rolling and yawing around trying to line up on me. He has a lot of nice visual details, like the gear action, and the canopy and speed brake. It's still using the ME-262 cockpit, so there's no gun sight, which makes it tough to aim In all, though, a lot of fun. [This message has been edited by Mighty (edited 12-28-1999).] IP: Logged |

A big thanks to Bryan Russell for helping me get the kinks out of the rudders also. Almost there with it now. At least the left one works and hopefully by tonight sometime the right one will be working as well.Everyday a little more progress. IP: Logged |

Kick-ass Pete!Yea, SDOE won't be a WWIII sim, but isn't it so fun just to build an aircraft and then fly it? I have more fun doing this than building physical models - with all the FM, DM, and DOF stuff - it is just so cool! Kinda like being an architect. Keep up the kick ass work Pete, it is so fun to fly anything in SDOE. That canopy looks awesome! ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! IP: Logged |

Thanks guys. Love to hear positives, keeps my enthusiasm for building high Sv, one thing I will say is that this could become similar to A-10 Cuba! which I absolutely love, even to this day. SDOG / A-10 Cuba II. (G for Gitmo). Imagine having Guantanamo bay with this OP engine... and all the great planes too... A-10 F-15 F-16 Mig 29 C-5 Antonov 124 And of course I'd add carriers and an F-14, A-6, A-4, A-7, F-18 and even a E-2C Hawkeye. I also have a Navy helicopter that Jag could develop for SAR missions. Over the past couple years I've worked on models of all these that could be optimized even more for Openplane. The only one I don't have so far is the A-124. So really, if someone could take the map from A-10 Cuba! and create it for SDOE, I slowly but surely would add all these planes. It may not have guided weapons yet, but by the time I had a handful of jets maybe Michael and crew would be able to add guidance systems, night-time lighting, and so forth! It's a nice dream that I hope to see through. Of course help is needed for the terrain and ground objects cause I haven't done that type of work yet. Although if I can do a plane I'm sure a square or rectangular building would be a heck of a lot easier If you are interested (anyone can help out), let me know and I'll start a webpage up with progress of it all and pics. pthawk@castles.com [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 12-28-1999).] IP: Logged |

Thanks to James "Razer747" Smith the F15 is now it's own SM file. Also he fixed the right rudder problem and put the 'rubber back in the tires. You can now go full throttle and pretty much stand still with the brakes on. Thanks James! Katana and everyone, I'm planning on releasing a "just for fun" beta of this F-15C this week, around Fri/Sat. It'll be basically done on the outside, and the rest (the FM and the cockpit) are still in work. If any of you want to jump in and tackle a job for it, say so and you're welcome to it. Heheh Pete, I love A-10 too, that is why I was so exited about SDOE...Ground targets look easy, importing the Cuba terrain looks to be hell How about A-10 over Europe? -Sv IP: Logged |
