Spanky here... Hi man what do you mean by smooth? What kind of cpu and ram do you have and what kind of FPS are you getting? Alt-P to check the frame rate if you don't know I don't think many people will be online till after the end of the holidays. IP: Logged |

I'd be interested too, Zool. I will be upgrading next year and video card choice is probably the most complex decision. The geforce has not been mentioned much on this board.IP: Logged |

i got a p2 400 w/ 256 ram. the fps in this game arent very constent theres a lot of factors that effect it such as the cockpit which slows things down considerably when you sit way back but up close its alot smoother same with the outside view of the plane. I play at 1024x768 with details all the way and my fps is mostly around 40-50 and up to 60 but will drop to 30 in some areas. Ill try overclocking and see how much that helps.IP: Logged |

Hmmm. Don't know if that's all a big deal or what Zool. I know the GeForces are supposed to handle mass quantities of polys at a time, but whether or not your games are really using all the extra horsepower is doubtful. I just don't think the code has been written to use them yet in most games. I only say this because I have a Velocity 4400 TNT 1 card and 224 megs of ram in a PII 450 and I get 60-80 fps most of the time with dips to the 40's. TNTs still kick butt! well sure 60-80 frames at what res? your probably right FS doesnt take full advantage of the geforce but I know its a huge diff from my tnt1 which is that same kind that you got. I just noticed that my system studderd alot with that card and i couldnt stand it....IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Well i run at 800x600 i don't see much of a diff in SDOE at 1024x768. I would say that it does seem like the ge force isn't being fully used. At least he has a card for the future though. I probly won't buy one though. I'm going to upgrade my cpu board and ram and hold on to my banshee for a while. see whats going on with vid cards in the fall and weigh that against my purchase of a playstation 2. I have a feeling it will be PSX2. Besides a ge force up here is $450 friggen insane

It used to stutter for me as well with my old 1.6 Gig HD. I upgraded to a fast 27 Gig HD and it's smooooth now! Loads very fast too. It's not always video related (as for the stuttering).[This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 12-25-1999).] IP: Logged |

Spanky here... For sure pete! When I upgraded from 64 to 96 megs of ram it stopped stuttering when it had to load stuff. So ram and Hard drive speed are very important too. While looking for a new HD i won't be just looking for the biggest one i can afford but rather the fastest. I don't care if i have a 10gig or a 20 gig. If you have a burner for archiving stuff then i don't see the need. I only have a couple games installed at one time anyway. Turns out that most of the time the bigger one's are also faster but I will be looking more towards price and speed then size. Also its a good idea to learn a bit about the bios settings and run your ram the fastest it can go. There can be a pretty good return for doing that.

I have a CD-RW as well, but sometimes I get lazy and just like having the vast HD real estate IP: Logged |

The G-Force doesn't do D3D very well; in most cases a TNT2-Ultra will be faster. Games like Quake Arena, which are coded for the G-Forces new features (eg,T&L), will run much faster with the G-Force. B17-2 + G-Force = bliss.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Well we will see Siggi I think people are putting to much faith into the makers of b17-2 I don't belive in a christan god so i certainly won't belive in a company based on making money putting out a perfect game everyone seems to be predicting Its all faith and I don't have faith in either.

Don't forget that the main selling point of the Geforce cards are that they are AGP 4x... And unless you are using 4x, you are getting pretty close to the results of a TNT2. Something that you should all be aware of..... Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |

There must be something wrong with my drivers or something...My TNT2 only gives me like 30-40 FPS on my Athlon 600 system with 128 mgs mem On the other hand, my meager VoodooII gives me 40-60... What I want to know is how do you PII450 guys get 60-80 FPS???? Is it that extra memory Pete??? I MUST know! ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! IP: Logged |

SV,Im'e pretty much into tweaking hardware including graphic cards.I run a TNT2 32meg with the nVidia 2.08 Det drivers clocked at 140core-170mem 2x AGP support on a p3450@505---128meg sdram---13.6 gig Quantum Fireball KA UDMA/66---on an Abit BE6 MOBO.I run FSSDOE at 1024x768x32bit and sitting on the runway in a spitIX,view back to approx wing level inside I get 70-80 fps.Outside I get 90-100fps.Now according to those specs and knowing that your Athalon has a 15% min better speed than my processor you should be clocking better than me.Email your specs to me at katana@primus.com.au and I will see if I can get the shop to rustle up a machine similar and work out whats up. ------------------ Cheers Kat out IP: Logged |

Sure would be cool to have a FS based standard timedemo to keep everything on the benchmark field level. One with all settings standardized by default and only one res to run in. I wouldnt know how to go about it tho.IP: Logged |
