Hi guys was just over at www.firingsquad.com and read their reveiw of the 3com gaming modem. They like it but don't find it much better then any other GOOD modem. Go to the site and see what they say. They give it 4 out of 5 stars.

One thing I love that site and think they do good reviews but, I think they dropped the ball with this one. The give you 2 test ping results and compare that to an average they see with one other modem at a totally different time of day.

k I think this site is great and I love the reveiws for games, vid cards, and procs. So whats with the crap modem review? When you guys reveiw a vid card you go crazy overboard and put up 4 pages of benchmarks. With the modem you put up 2 ping results to one server and the average you normaly see with one other modem. WTF?

If this reveiw was up to your regular caliber you would have used one other hardware 3com modem and at least one or 2 other software modems all in the same machine or very similar machines and shown there ping results all from the same day at the same time of day.

such as 3:00 PM 15 dec 1999
4 ping average pings to our fav quake 3 server

gaming modem 140

reg 3com hardware modem 155

software modem 170

that may not been how it turned out but thats how it should have been presented. With just as much depth as you give your vid card reviews. We all know how much lag can be a bitch so be more in depth and give us the numbers instead of one guys take on the thing.

read the review and tell me if my above opinion is not right on the money.

anyway if you in the market for a good 56k modem and you want to make sure you get a hardware one for peak performance (for those that don't know YOU DO!!!) then this looks like a good choice if you can get by the steep price. It does come with some games though and a $25 copy of quake 3 if your into that kind of thing to sweeten the deal.

Just your freindly helpfull Sp@nky here keeping you guys up to speed cause I have way too much time on my hands and spend it all surfing. LOL
