Found this on Drake Christensen plan @ LYNX.INERTIAGAMES.COM Looks like MH and DC are working on a RC simulator

.plan

12/DEC/99

Made it in onna weekend
Moved RCSimulator\IGApp.* to GUI\GUIApp.*
Oops, turns out Michael had a couple of the affected files checked out. I was sure I checked for that.
Descended from FXStream to work with our file system
Do we want to prepend gui/art to all gui bitmap reads?

Actually RC stands for Rational Cotangent. We're doing a simulation on an esoteric branch of mathematics for college students.

Okay, Michael. I guess we have to come clean.

Everyone, Michael, was just pulling your legs when he was describing the hawk simulator a coupla months ago. But it was closer to reality than you thought. The real name of Project Y is: Raging Canaries! You try to avoid the humans with the net and take out your vengance on the cat for eating your siblings! We think it's a genre-buster :-)

Wow when Michael said it was non-military and non civ flight he wasn't kidding! Have you guys been trading the modelling of flapping flight with these guys?

I can't wait to try this one!!

Mad Dog here....

If my memory serves me right, (which it often doesn't ) the bird sim was Spanky and I's idea. Like nobody else has ever thought of it before....hehe. Not that we care at all. If MH (or anyone else for that matter) wanted to do a bird sim I think it would be killer!!! Be an Owl, and swoop down on rabitts and field mice?!! C'mon, how awesome would that be!!!?

Will you model cat's in the game. I think it would be real cool to be a cat and try and chase down a bird.

Where do you put the props on those things anyway.

I am modelling a seagull now and it keeps eating the prop.

So, Michael, Mighty et al.

Will "Project Y : Screaming Ducks over Europe" model

a. Thermals
b. Slope Lift ( lift from the wind forced to rise over a slope )

These will be very important to the birds.

I can't wait to "Glide" over the cliffs of Dover, or whereever ;-)

K...I don't get it. Why aren't we all talking about the actual project Y. It's all fun to fantasize about what a bird sim would be like, but I would have thought that the conversation would have turned to RC planes and stuff by now. I played RC Stunt Copter, and I had a riot! (I'll bet Jaguar has played it ) The thing that made it so cool was the fact that it uses the Playstation's Dual Shock controller, (if you don't know what I'm talking about, you've been living under a rock) and the two sticks exactly emulate the radio of an RC aircraft. Apparently there is an adapter that allows you to plug your Dual Shock into your PC, but I havn't seen it anywhere yet. To anyone who hasn't played with a Dual Shock, it's the best damn gamepad EVER. Bar none. If Project Y does turn out to be an RC sim,(and if it is any good) I deffinately want to invest in one of these adapters.

play.............station?......... you mean colecovision isn't around anymore?!....hhhhmmmmm I don't trust those new wacky "electric" devices. There's nothing like a good steam powered console gaming system.

Actually, the last game system I bought was a Nintendo....... no not Super Nintendo...... just Nintendo I haven't tried that RC Chopper sim...... but I'll look into it I mean, who could resist?!

I can't stress to you enough that RC Stunt Copter is a bonified SIM. I had always thought that I would at least be able to get an RC chopper off the ground. I knew it would be hard, but I didn't realise it was THAT hard! You start out with these "training wheels" that are like four metal spider legs with balls on the ends, and BOY do you need them!! it was a long time before I could fly without them. Anyways, it is a kick ass sim.

I have RealFlight Deluxe, an R/C sim for the PC which includes heli's and airplanes and a realistic transmitter box that plugs into your joystick port, and wow what a sim it is! It's amazing. The helicopters fly very convincingly. I used to own 2 R/C choppers and know how they should feel in a sim, and this one has it down. The planes are fun but don't feel quite right to me. An R/C plane just fly's differently, bobs around in the wind/airstream much more than is modeled in RFD. But the heli's have me very impressed. Anyone else tried it yet?

It's not cheap, about $250, but the amount of dollars saved from having REAL crashes has been in several thousands for me. I did crash one of my heli's once when I got too cocky and did a dumb move of landing WITH the wind and not into it. Lost some lift and down she went, boom strike and blades started flying, thankfully away from me
