Never let it be said I lurk. Congrats to MH for successfully hi-jacking the forum! But...we had one already, didn't we? Wouldn't the time spent constructing this board have been better spent fixing the online damage modelling MH? Maybe then we'd see a few more people being prepared to fly online. I see a stake, must dash.------------------ RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE IP: Logged |

No, you won't get staked, but I *have* already answered this one...When Pete's site shut down I started the process of creating an official Inertia hosted FS site (now that we're running less lean than we were, we can afford it) so that the community doesn't have to worry about "The" site going away because one person loses interest, or whatnot. As long as we're around, so will this site be around. It's also being co-maintained by Lector, and other people have volunteered to help in any way they can, so ongoing updates will be a group effort.

I don't really give a crap where the board is, but you have to admit that it seems a little odd that we are using a board sponsored by the developers? Not that I have any thoughts that MH would censor us or anything, and I realise that Lector is co-maintaining it. Just seems odd. Also, this site seems quite a bit slower than the old one. Not that I am trying to rock the boat or vote for an abandonment of this one, just some random thoughts....I seem to get those all the time these days, and any thoughts that I'm lucky enough to get are good....to me anyways. heheIP: Logged |

Interesting comment, Mad Dog....it's strange, but I found this one to be faster. Just an observation; I wonder why there are differences like that? It can't be just connections, modems, isp's, etc; anyone have any theories?? Maybe a combo of the host server, the forum software, and all the above can cause such differences? In other words, it isn't always the machinery that increases the site effectiveness?Just curious.. ------------------ nealg=FC= IP: Logged |

Your thoughts would be more applicable Mad Dog if SDOE was just a game - but the whole thrust of SDOE can be considered to be it's open architecture, allowing the community to more or less grow the sim. We need MH to build the sim operating system so the speak, and he needs us to create content. Just the way Quake is really all about the add-ons - even Microsoft Flight Sim is like this. This is why the forum is so key to SDOE - it is not just typical game forum, but home of the official OpenPlane community. Also MH does not condemn the other sites - anyone can put up a SDOE forum, it's not against the law heheh - so if you want a more "user controlled" forum that is still possible. However this seems to be quite ideal considering the fact the MH all ready relies on SDOE users to help run the site So in closing, I would consider this site a pre-requisite to future work by MH (or anyone really) done on patches to the OpenPlane engine (or SDOE if you prefer). I think having an "official" place on the web for SDOE/OpenPlane will only strengthen the community. ------------------ -Sv =FC= IP: Logged |

SDOE is just a game. It is driven by the Open Plane bus, which may bring new and wonderous things for new games, and even SDOE for awhile longer, but it is after all is said and done...a game. All games have life spans, the really good ones have longer lifes than others, but they all eventually die. If SDOE was a person it would be packing it's bags and moving to Florida to retire. Doesn't mean it doesn't have more life in it, golf every day, etc. But it starts to think more of what it has left behind, and hope that it's offspring become more than it was. Bring in, SDOE II which of course won't be called that. Long live SDOE. I will remember it fondly as I look twoard the future at what it's son offers. The following were as usual just my opinions. PR

hehe PR, it's a game but it might well give birth to a son! Holy moly! (insert rosemary's baby scene here)
