Hey, it's me Archy!

Well, I've been tinkering around with terrains
of late(very early stages). What I would like
to see is a complete Pearl Harbor addition to
the game. Ive played around with the scenario a bit since way back when I ran a pearl mission using exters, and about 10 zeros.

Well, What pacific terrains have already been done? I have pacific, which I plan to borrow some tiles from if I do Pearl. I've seen mention of midway, but don't have it, don't know where it is or what quality. By the way I think pacific is top notch.

We need ships, lots of em, but Nat, we need to make ships that somehow incorporate some systemloadouts ie, AIR, SURFACE, BOTH. When I fly my faux Pearl mission, I get halfway to Pearl in my Zero, and I start hearin those big guns firing, from hood or shcharnhorst(in leiu of american battleships). What I see is
that if we gave them an air only loadout, they would have no ammo for the big guns and be limeted to smaller aa guns.

Anyways, I need tips on creating terrains, did someone do a tutorial on it? Who & Where?

I've already converted the Pacific terrain to an all water terrain Mytest, and experimented
with supertextureing. What I want to do now is create Oahu with acurate layout + elevations. Anyone ahead of me on this?

Anyone want to work on this? The way I see it Pearl can be made into a really cool addition: What I'd like to see in Pearl:

Ships that move ala Petes work with dofs in
s scripted fashion.
Ships that burn, sink, turn turtle, explode
Subs that dive and surface(dof method)
Carriers the same(dofs, looped)
Ground units stationed at pearl that do the same in a scripted fashion. Flags waving.

Scripted sounds, Sunday morning, Dec 7 1941
Church bells, Revelly(sp), maybe a radio broadcast.

A Pearl addition like this is possible, and
it would be a huge addition. We could use a committee on this if people are interested.

There is no formal tutorial. All I have are few Emails that spell out a few things that Nat and Rendsberger were doing. Anyway, we have come a long way since those methods but, they do work. I think the best thing to do is get in touch with 3 people. Nat, Rendsberger and Pierre R(TailGunner). Ask a bunch of questions. They like this stuff.

Well, would those three be willing to help
create a How To, or Faq describing methods/
software they use to work on terrain.

What do we need to make it easier?

I have been doing a lot of work on terrain mesh of late, and I can probably give you a good idea of HOW it is done. There are various methods, depending on what modelling software you use. Nat has the 3dS Max method well sorted, I can tell you how to do it in AC3D, Rendsburger has mastered airfield placement etc. better than I ever did, and Diego is THE man when it comes to terrain painting.

One word of warning ....

There are not many TRUE new terrains out there for one reason ... not that we CAN'T do it ... it is just one MASSIVE job to do it!

Archy,
after working at all of the big projects like Smolensk-Bavaria-Tobruk and other smaller projects like Somme-africamod-sdoeterrainmod i wonīt put my fingers into a next big project. There are some things i will add/change to the exsisting terrains and this is what i want to do first. Maybe i can help out a little bit but thats all for now.

Pierre sayed it already to be warned and i guess that only one person will not make it. There is to much to do and sometimes itsīto much of stupid work to do a simple job again and again up to 400 times.
But go on and find one or two person who want to help and do it!

If i worked at any terrain i used following software:
OpenPlaneStudio 1.3
3D Software like anim8or/ac3d
Ol-7

Notice: Never make any changes on airfields using OPS because OPS creates wrong airfield.sm and u lost all needed airfield informations. Use Ol-7 instead where u can make all changes by text editing.

About a tutorial: Well i guess this is a job for someone with more english knowledge than me.

Pierre, Yes, Let me know how you are working on terrains(methods/procedures). I
will also be using AC3D & Ops
